While aimlessly surfing the web, I came across this interesting article by SecurityInfoWatch.com. The article discusses the trends and popularity of wireless surveillance networks, and it got me thinking …is wireless the next ‘big thing’ in IP surveillance?
It might be difficult to say right now but it’s hard to deny advantages of going wireless, namely -
- The obvious – No Cabling! No cables means easy set up and low maintenance
- Monitor Remotely – on offsite locations or even through mobile devices
- Cost Effective….in the long run – going wireless reduces maintenance cost
- Quality of Equipment – these days wireless cameras are made with the most IP video technology, rivalling their ‘wired’ counterparts

The other day, while just clicking through the web, I found this article “How to Gear Up ATM Security Using IP Surveillance?” and it really caught my attention. We all know that IP Surveillance has its advantages, (including higher levels of image resolution, etc.) but there is no other industry that benefits from an IP environment than banks.
Here are some highlight advantages that the article addresses:
- High resolution streaming makes it possible to detect thieves with much precision than CCTV.
- Mobility of IP enables surveillance personnel to access video footage remotely.
- IP Video prevents a process called “skimming” from ATMs.
Want to learn more about how to implement IP to your surveillance environment? Watch this informative webinar on DNF Security’s YouTube page.

As a major port in the west coast, the Port of West Sacramento is centrally located among the busiest transportation grid of major highways, airports, and national railway systems. With an extensive amount of industrial and agricultural goods shipped in and out their harbors everyday, the Port of West Sacramento’s aging, decentralized surveillance system was just not cutting it. A major upgrade was in order, but with the installs of highly advanced cameras and more demanding surveillance applications, the Port decided that DNF Security’s line of video storage, video management engines (VME) and video workstations were the best choice to transition their surveillance environment to a more efficient system.
Learn more about how our surveillance solutions helped the Port of West Sacramento on this latest case study.

In the world of surveillance, IP-based technologies are changing the paradigm of the video surveillance infrastructure. With the IP industry growing an average of 30% every year, according to IMS Research, it seems that this rapid growth is closing in on the usage of older CCTV analog technologies. IP solutions has its fair share of advantages, namely, high resolution video streaming as well as easy networking and scalability abilities – all resulting in a environment that is ready to take on more demanding surveillance applications.
However if you currently use analog and are thinking about adding in high resolution IP-based cameras or storage to your environment, don’t think that you need to completely do away with your analog solutions. Think “Hybrid Surveillance“.

Things are looking up for the IP surveillance market. 2010 has been a good year, as IP Camera Sales alone jumped 30% according to IPVideoMarket.info. But 2011 is looking even brighter, and here are the top reasons why:
- Mature IP Technology: Over the past years, the IP Surveillance market is developing at a rapid rate by offering more advanced IP cameras, Video Management Software, and Video Management Engines at a better cost.
- Declining Analog Surveillance Sales: As IP Surveillance offers more scalable, affordable and performance-driven features, analog cameras and DVR sales have declined and are expected to decline in the following years.
- Demand for Image Quality and HD Cameras: Resolution is key in today’s surveillance industry, and IP Cameras these days are boosting up their megapixel resolutions like never before.
- Economic Rebound: With the economy slowly rebounding from the recession, we see more companies investing more on surveillance, giving the IP surveillance market a broader customer base than in recent years.

China, one of the fastest growing economies in the world, might also be one of the biggest consumers in the surveillance global market. In a study conducted by IMS Research last month, it is expected that the Chinese surveillance market between 2010 to 2014 will grow over 20% annually, boosting the national surveillance market to $3.5 billion by 2014. This is a substantial amount, considering that the estimated Chinese surveillance market in 2009 was $1.4 billion.
However what does this mean to the global surveillance market? As we all know entering the Chinese market, in general, can be tricky especially for businesses coming from the West. The culture, the fierce competition, and everything else in between can determine the success or failure of a business. However one of the biggest adversities that foreign companies endure, especially in the surveillance and technology industry, are the strict Chinese trade rules and regulations.
In fact companies in the foreign business community find that these strict trade regulations often hinder them from doing business in China, ultimately giving domestic brands the upper hand in the end. So is it worth surveillance-based companies in the US or Europe to enter into the “Wild East”? The verdict is still up in the air, but one thing is for sure, China is a hot emerging surveillance market.
